A quickie!

Here’s the quickie version of the birth (I might one day get around to posting the whole enchilada later)!

– 6 PM: Water broke!

– I then had two contractions 5 minutes apart, and from that point on they were all 2-3 minutes apart and lasting about a minute (or more each) and ALL in my back (oww).

– Around 7ish I scrapped plans to labor at home b/c the contractions were so close together and we headed for the hospital. During the ride I found myself fighting hard not to push and puke.

– I don’t remember the timeline all that well, but I do remember begging, I mean begging for them to let me cheat on the 20 minute “check in” NST. They did not. I know I got checked about 7:45 PM and was 100% effaced and 4cm. I was told it may be a little early to get in the shower and then got in anyway. While I was in the shower I was having the most intense urge to push and MAJOR back pain. In fact I only felt a few contractions in the front, pretty much all of them were in my back.

– I got out of the shower about 8:45PM and moaned about needing to push, so Jane (the midwife) checked me. I was 10 cm and ready to go!

– I pushed for about an hour hanging over the squat bar, and then for about 30 ish minutes on my side.  And then…

– At 10:17PM Julia was born!!!

(and then she was whisked away to the NICU b/c she inhaled fluid into her lungs, they made her stay in the NICU all the way until we were discharged…it was AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. But she’s all good now and Mommy and Daddy are in panic mode realizing that they have a baby and no one showed them anything at the hospital and their first night “rooming in” with her was at home.)

***Having no drugs was HARD and it HURT (I ain’t gonna lie), I made it up to my room about 1AM, and then around 3:45ish we went to visit The Jewels in the NICU and I got my strength back and I felt GREAT! Seriously, I’ve been taking some Advil for cramping, but that’s it.

It.

Hanging out on the couch….water broke about 6 PM. Contractions less than 5 minutes apart began immediately.

Fe-fie-foe-fum…

We went in for our weekly. I elected not to get checked…so I have no exciting cervical news to report. The most exciting thing about our visit, aside from hearing her heart beat was watching the numbers on the scales climb. WOW! I weigh 146 lbs. That’s a 48 lb. weight gain. No wonder my hips, knees, ankles, and feet all feel dangerously close to breaking everytime I get out of bed. Everybody, and I mean, everybody (random strangers included) tell me I’m “all baby”, so I guess that’s good!

Behold…39 weeks 5 days. Due date = Day after tomorrow.

Tagged.

Stacey at Life of a Lowry has tagged me – to tell 6 quirky/random things about myself!

1. When eating any assortment of colored candy (think mm’s, reese’s, skittles etc.) I dump out the whole bag and the make a seperate line of each color, side by side. I then eat them in a pattern making sure that the same number of each color (minus the one I’m currently eating) remain.

2. There is a specific shower sequence that I MUST follow. First, wash my hair. Second, condition my hair. Third, shave. Fourth, wash my face. Fifth, wash my body (neck to toes).  It MUST be in this order so that the “dirt/germs” are washed off top to bottom. If it were any other way then the “dirt/germs” from the top would get a previously cleaned part dirty again and that would defeat the purpose of showering!

3.  I’m a frail, 5’3″, 98 lb (pre-pregnancy), white girl from the ‘burbs. I LOVE old school gangsta rap and hip hop. I mean I love it and switch effortlessly from listening to Beethoven to NWA.

4. I have an unhealthy obsession/love affair with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. I love him and his writing so much that I often spend my lunch breaks trolling the Supreme Court website looking/reading his slip opinions.

5. I am a ridiculously unhealthy eater. When it comes to dairy products, ONLY whole milk and real butter will do – no 2%, skim, margarine, spray crap! I prefer to pop popcorn in bacon grease as opposed to cooking oil. I cannot tolerate diet soda/diet anything.

6. My feet are completely different sizes, as are my hands. Prior to getting pregnant my left foot was a 7 and my right foot was a 6. Now, they’re more like 8 and 7. Creeeepy!

-I’m cheating and only tagging one person. I tag Denise at Freezer Buns!

Lies!!!

Well, when we saw the midwife on 10.27.08 we were told “most likely days, not weeks.” All I can say is, “liar, liar, pants on fire!!!” Silly woman why couldn’t you have gotten out your crystal ball and told us when our baby would be born! Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since the 10.27.08 appt. and it will have officially been “weeks.” I’ve definately had several rounds of “fakers” (slightly painful contractions) that go on for 2 -3 hours and then stop. WTF? Please, body don’t fail me now! Oh well…I guess my uterus is just extra comfy and Julia is getting nice and uh…plush.

What Not to do…

If any of y’all were making a list of what not to do when you’re 9 months pregnant, please be sure to include the following…

DO NOT drink an enormous glass of OJ on an empty stomach and then immediately fill said empty stomach with bowl of spaghetti overloaded with parm. reggiano.

I might throw up even as I am typing these words…..ugh. Nausea. Ugh.

Oo! I forgot to tell y’all that I now weigh 141.8 lbs for a total weight gain of 43.8 lbs to date.

Tales from the MW!

Had our weekly appt. today. “Daddy” just couldn’t stand the suspense and really wanted the midwife to “check” and see if there was any progress. So, magically it was discovered that Julia is at…

+ 1 station! (Holy crap! Maybe she will just “fall out”!)

And I am…

3 cm dilated

90 % effaced
